Major Writing Assignment #2: IMRaD vs. Argument-Based Research Papers

There are a few differences between research-based argumentative papers and papers using the IMRaD format. The greatest difference is that IMRaD relies on primary research, whereas other argumentative papers rely on secondary research. In addition, IMRaD is more scientific. Papers with this format spend a great amount of time explaining the primary research, i.e. how it was conducted, statistics, and results. In contrast, other argumentative essays spend more time analyzing outcomes of multiple studies, rather than focusing on the details of each specific study.

But that is a difficult thing to master, and overall I feel that I did pretty well. For the next speech I should move around more, use more variation of tone, and improve my visuals. Major Speech Assignment #1: Video

Hillary Clinton: "Role Models" https://youtu.be/mrX3Ql31URA Clinton's ad uses pathos, influencing the emotions of the audience by using children. Children represent innocence and the future, and adults want to protect children. The commercial utilizes changes in imagery to evoke certain responses in the audience. For example, the lighting is dark when showing Trump and light when showing Hillary. The children's faces are upset and anxious when Trump is on the television screen, but neutral or more excited and hopeful when Hillary appears. The commercial adds to this effect through the music and chosen speech excerpts. The music is quiet and in a minor key during Trump's clip, and becomes louder and more positive and upbeat for Hillary. In addition, the clips of Trump that were chosen were deliberately chosen to show him in a negative light; makers of the ad purposely chose to use footage of the worst things he has said or done, and opted to use more positive ...
